Tips for naming activities

ContactsLaw gives you the freedom to assign your own descriptive names to each activity in the system, however you may wish to consider the following when devising names for activities:
  • Activities do not always appear in groups, so don't rely on the name of the group to describe the activity. Each activity must wholly describe itself.
  • If you split a receipt/payment activity by providing alternate workflows for different payment methods, it's a good idea to include the payment methods in the name of the activity.
  • In general, if you define multiple activities for a particular internal activity type, you should provide enough information in the name of the activity to allow the user to select the instance they require.
  • If the name of the activity refers to the type of record it creates, you should use a singular term (e.g. "file creation") instead of a plural term (e.g. "create files"). This will improve readability and intuitiveness throughout the system.
  • It may aid with alphabetisation if you begin activity names with the type of record to which they relate (e.g. "document registration" vs. "register document").
